Watercoolers Europe Partners with Just A Drop to Bring Clean Water to Zambia

At Watercoolers Europe, water is not just our industry – it is our responsibility. That is why we are proud to announce our partnership with Just a Drop, an international development charity dedicated to bringing safe, clean water to communities in need. Together, we are funding the Mumbwa Borehole Rehabilitation project in Zambia, and the impact will be felt for generations to come.

The Challenge

In Zambia, 6.4 million people – 35% of the population – do not have access to safe water. In the Mumbwa District, women and girls make dangerous daily treks to collect water from rivers shared with livestock and frequented by wild elephants. Girls are pulled out of school. Women are unable to work. Families are trapped in a cycle of poverty, illness and inequality – all because of something we take for granted every single day.

The Project

Working with Just a Drop, we are rehabilitating boreholes in the Mumbwa District to provide 260 community members with a sustainable, safe water source. The project goes beyond fixing a borehole – a local WASH Committee will be trained to maintain the infrastructure and lead long-term improvements in hygiene and sanitation, with Just a Drop monitoring the community for at least seven years after implementation. Surplus water from the borehole will also enable communities to grow vegetable gardens, improving nutrition and generating income through the sale of excess crops.

The Impact

Clean water changes everything. Children will stay in school. Women will reclaim their time, their safety and their livelihoods. Families will be healthier. Communities will thrive. This project directly contributes to six UN Sustainable Development Goals – from clean water and good health to gender equality, quality education and reduced inequalities.
