At the end of February 2022, the Spanish Mineral Water Association (ANEABE) held its XLIV General Assembly. At the meeting, the sector’s progress in terms of sustainability and circularity was presented. In addition, the main challenges facing the mineral water sector were discussed, as well as ANEABE’s priorities and lines of work for 2022.
The event was chaired by Mr. Francisco Vallejo, President of ANEABE, Mr. Óscar Hernández, Vice-President, and Ms. Irene Zafra, Secretary General of the Association, with the participation of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Ms. Reyes Maroto, in the opening ceremony, who, telematically, remarked the innovative spirit of the mineral water sector, the positive impact on the areas where it carries out its industrial activity and, above all, the work being done in terms of sustainability.
The minister also emphasised the sector’s progress in environmental protection. She also drew attention to the fact that 100% of the packaging used by the sector is recyclable and the high recycling rate for bottles of less than 3 litres, which stands at 93.8% according to ECOEMBES data.
In this respect, Irene Zafra, secretary general of Aneabe, pointed out that, “The mineral water sector has shown great sensitivity and commitment to environmental protection. By implementing measures to improve the production and management of packaging. We have to follow this path and strengthen public-private collaboration to advance and promote the development of an activity as essential as ours in a sustainable way.”
