New EU Packaging Regulations will impact Producers, Importers and Manufacturers

From February 2025, new rules will be introduced, such as making producers responsible for empty and filled packaging and importers bringing packaging into the EU. This date also marks the adoption of a new definition for reusable packaging.

By the end of 2025, stricter recycling quotas will be gradually implemented.

In August 2026, substance restrictions on PFAS in food packaging will take effect. Packaging must also comply with recyclability standards, stricter rules on environmental claims, and conformity assessments.

Importers, retailers, and fulfilment service providers will face new obligations to ensure compliance.
