Mineral water companies have donated around one million litres in the first week after the hurricane to help the victims in Valencia, according to the Spanish Mineral Water Association (Aneabe).
The donation, which will continue to grow in the coming days, has been made possible thanks to the Solidarity Water Bank promoted by Aneabe – which brings together 60 companies and represents 90% of the sector’s total production – and the Red Cross.
Different institutions, NGOs and entities have also collaborated in the distribution, such as the Food Bank, Amigos de la Calle, Firefighters, SAR Navarra, the UME, the Civil Guard, the Local Police, the Generalitat Valenciana and town councils.
“Aneabe stressed that bottled water has become a product of prime necessity in the face of the serious damage and emergency caused by the drought.
The companies have distributed it in five-litre carafes and individual bottles.”
The Aneabe and Red Cross Solidarity Water Bank has been activated on different occasions since its creation in 2016; one of the most notable, according to the association, was the first wave of the pandemic in 2020, with two million litres donated; in 2023 it was activated for the fires in Tenerife, with the distribution of more than 10,000 litres.
