Gustav Felix & WE Protect the Watercooler Industry Again!

February 14, 2014

For over two years, our Director General, Gustav Felix, has been working hard defending the interests of the water cooler industry on the Standards Committee which has been looking at changes to DIN6650-6 - "Dispense Systems for Beverages - Part 6 : Requirements for Cleaning and Disinfection”.

This Committee consists almost totally of representatives from the brewery business so there is often the possibility that legislation may be passed that whilst suitable for the brewery industry is not suitable for the watercooler industry.
Gustav is delighted to tell us that despite being the only representative from our industry in the working group, he persuaded the Committee to keep unchanged all previous regulations related to water coolers, which remain in line with the WE Code of Good Hygiene Practice for BWC and POU. All other changes requested from the brewery industry, including the setting of limits for HPC, will be clearly specified as only valid for beer dispensers.

In conclusion DIN6650-6, which is already registered in Brussels as “Code of Good Hygiene Practice for Beverage Dispensing Systems” will keep unchanged the requirements for water dispensers as follows:

1.       Cleaning & Disinfection:  2 – 4 times a year.  (Without Gustav this may have been far more frequent - up to once/ week)

2.       No HPC controls as introduced for beers. (If there had been reference to the Drinking Water Regulation there may have been a HPC 100 limit!)

Our thanks to Gustav for this achievement.
