EU calls for Standardisation of Filters

June 23, 2014

WE are pleased to advise that the CEN – European Committee for Standardization (CEN/PC 426) has started a project to create European Standards for filters in “Domestic appliances used for water treatment not connected to water supply”.

This is the first step in the process of establishing new standards in Europe for water filtration. Although there are standards in France, Spain and UK, there are no European Standards relating to performance and safety.  This is negatively affecting the certification and circulation of filters in the market.

This project is led by UNI - Italian Organization for Standardization in Milan.  The Project Committee 426 consists of representatives from Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the UK, the second meeting having taken place in Milan on 4th April 2014.

Gustav Felix, WE- Director General, is part of the German group and represents WE and the interests of the watercooler industry in this major project.

The scope of the project is to standardise requirements for safety, performance and labelling of water treatment appliances used in domestic and similar environments used in the treatment of drinking water e.g. filtration, sparkling etc.

Filter manufacturers who are interested in supporting this initiative should contact Gustav Felix for further information at GustavFelix@aol.com
