General history on WI and its members

The Italian Association, WI, was founded in 2000  It now has 12 members who represent 80% of the bottled water (BW) and point-of-use (POU) market in Italy. WI was originally known as AIABO, meaning “Bottled Water Italian Association” but in 2012 changed to Watercoolers Italy - WI - expanding the Association to include POU members.

Describe the current watercooler market in Italy and where you think it is going.

  • Marzia Mariotti

The watercooler market in Italy is quite mature, with a decrease of the BW market and increase in POU. The trend of the Italian market has been the same as other European markets.

  • WE

Italians are known for their talent in design – do you think Italy will lead future innovation?

  • Marzia Mariotti

The Italian talent for design is represented also in POU market where Italian companies excel both in design and quality of their products. WI has members that represent this excellence.

  • WE

WE is having its annual event in Rome this year. Do you see this helping the industry in Italy?

  • Marzia Mariotti

I think that WE Conference in Rome is an opportunity to give more visibility to our market and to enlarge our membership quota.

  • WE

Culligan is a sponsor at the Rome event – please describe what made you make this decision.

  • Marzia Mariotti

Culligan is honoured to be a sponsor of the Conference in Rome because our company is a pioneer BW business in America and has been a leader in Italy since the birth of the business.

  • WE

How long have you been a member of the WE EXECO and how do you see the future of WE?

  • Marzia Mariotti
