    How long have you been in the watercooler industry and how long has Blupura has been in business,

    I’ve been working in the water cooler industry since 1997. Blupura was founded in January 2008 and is a partnership between Gianni Grottini and myself.

    Together we have over 40 years of experience and have both built up a solid reputation in the industry. I have had many years of experience in international sales of both bottle and POU coolers. Gianni has even longer experience on the technical and manufacturing side of the water cooler industry. He has spent the last 25 years researching materials and components and selecting suppliers to develop and industrialise numerous water cooler models. In February 2014, having considered the potentiality of a huge market such as USA , we founded BLUPURA USA INC. (fully owned by Blupura Italy), and we opened a sales office and a warehouse in Miami(FL). In addition, as a result of increased manufacture and distribution of water vending machines within north and central Italy, we have just founded another Company named ACQUA CITY (fully owned by Blupura Italy), that operates the water vending machines which Blupura manufactures. So in our Group we have now 3 Companies: BLUPURA Srl (Italy) = manufacturing BLUPURA USA Inc = selling to the US market ACQUA CITY Srl = operating water vending machines

    Blupura is an innovative company – what inspired you to take the risk of designing and manufacturing niche products and selling them to niche markets? Has this been a successful strategy?

    Blupura was founded with the very clear idea of manufacturing and offering the international market a new angle on POU coolers – innovative and eco-friendly, thanks to the use of natural fluoride-free compressors with a unique Italian design and stylish materials like aluminium and glass. The company philosophy is based on environmental awareness, quality components and inspirational materials. When we founded Blupura, we had a clear vision of what the market was lacking: almost all of the water-cooler manufacturers were battling it out for a segment of the office market sector, hardly taking the almost virgin market of hospitality. (hotel – restaurant – catering) into consideration. We understood that this market segment was just at the beginning so we created a completely new design using innovative and modern materials (aluminium, glass) with exceptionally high performance which were specifically aimed at satisfying the hospitality market. In addition, we structured ourselves to do smaller productions, investing in an important Technical Department, while optimising the using of components and the co-ordination of sub-suppliers. So we are very flexible, and ready to reply quickly to special market needs, customizing coolers for our customers also in smaller quantities. Only a few days ago one of our international customers couldn’t believe we were ready with a working prototype only 3 weeks after his request!

    What are Blupura’s other large market sectors besides home and office water coolers? And where in the world are your largest markets?

    “Blupura, the Hospitality Specialist” says one of our slogans. We have started the business concentrating our efforts on the creation of a product with high performance, great design and high quality material. The result has been Fontemagna, a water cooler entirely made in stainless steel with touch screen key board and all the comfort a restaurant could ask for and that allowed Blupura to establish itself in the market. Nevertheless, this is not the only sector in which Blupura is strongly recognized; in fact our Technical Department developed CITY, the Outdoor/Indoor Vending water cooler line, that allows municipalities and water authorities to present green and sustainable initiatives to their citizen, while Blupura provides purified chilled, still and sparkling water, making a business out of it. Blupura works very closely with the Italian water authorities and city councils. We have designed, manufactured and installed several dozen outdoor drinking fountains, that dispense cold still and cold sparkling water where citizens can go to refill their own bottles at an incredibly reasonable price (usually 5 or 10 Eurocents per litre). This is becoming more and more common in Italy; over the last five years around 1000 public water supply fountains have been installed. The trend is expanding to other markets and we are receiving visits from other European countries, from Africa and from the Middle East to see our installations and to understand how the system works. An extremely high level of guarantees for safety, hygiene and quality is needed to supply this type of cooler to water authorities and city councils for a public use.     Blupura won an Aqua Award at the WE Trade Show in Berlin, 2014. Please describe the product you it won for, and elaborate on the features of the product that most show your inventive creativity.

    We won the 2013 Aqua Award with the BCC Vision – a water cooler with video and audio to display information, presentation and advertising. Ideal for stations, airport, public spaces, etc. it is a water cooler revolution, as it is now possible to install the water cooler for free, making money in selling advertising space. BCC Vision supplies cold still and/or cold sparkling water using the ice-bank as cooling technology. It is entirely made in stainless steel, has an easy front access for maintenance and thanks to the UV unit installed on the spout it eliminates risk of bacteria proliferation. Furthermore, through its 10’ LCD screen it is possible to display information, presentation, advertising.

    Have products made by Blupura won any other awards? Where and When?

    Luckily yes! And we love the fact that the industry recognizes our efforts and investment in design, innovations and sustainability. We had 4 Gold Awards : Two Gold Awards because of ENVIRONMENTAL BEST PRACTISE, as Blupura is still the sole manufacturer in the water cooler industry to use Natural Refrigerant Gases R290 and R600. We were the first to introduce the natural refrigerant gases (R290 and R600) with high energy efficiency and zero impact on global warming, and Blupura is still the sole company in this industry to have made the historical change of using natural, eco-friendly, fluoride-free HC compressors. This move to being environmentally sound brought us to the attention of Greenpeace. In fact we have been mentioned by Greenpeace in their report on Cooling Technologies for the last two years (reports 2010 and 2012). Also, 1 Gold Award for the BCC model and 1 Gold Award for the WAVE model , Best Cooler of 2011 for Design and Innovation.

    What are the products that Blupura manufactures or provides that are most likely to interest a water cooler company?

    At the moment the water cooler market is office oriented, and this is where the majority of water cooler companies are focusing. Blupura has indeed models for the office environment, such as the WAVE range, the BCC. However, a water cooler company should consider segments that currently maybe niche, such as the hospitality, but that are growing faster and faster. Another great business that will see a boom, and Blupura is experiencing this boom in Italy, are the water vending machines. In an office it is right for employees and visitors to be offered free purified water, but in many other situations the water that is dispensed from a water cooler could be sold…. and the opportunities here are huge….
